Farm fun
Rachel had lots of fun on the farm. She got to sit on a giant pumpkin and even play inside Mommy’s suitcase!

Great Grandma Bets & Aunties
Rachel had the special honor of meeting her Great Grandmother Betsey for the first time. We also enjoyed a nice lunch with Bets, Aunt Joy and Aunt Jenny.

Down on the farm
Our next stop was a visit to my parents’ farm in the Sierra Foothills of northern California. They were in the midst of a busy and productive harvest season! Picking, sorting and selling delicious fruit and vegetables at their very own farmer’s market.

California friends
On the first leg of our journey, I got to see two dear California friends, Lynne and Rosario. They met Rachel for the first time!

Our trip West
We just got back from a great summer trip to California and Nevada. We praise God for the opportunities we had to visit family and friends, and to reflect on His many mercies to us. We’ll share some photos over the next couple of weeks. Here’s the first one from a wonderful day trip we took to Lake Tahoe.
Manassas
David and I went on a Saturday date to visit the Manassas National Battlefield Park where two Civil War battles took place. The park was celebrating the 148th anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas (or Bull Run), which took place July 21, 1861. It was here that Confederate General Thomas Jonathan Jackson earned his nickname “Stonewall”, and his statue overlooks the battlefield.

Monticello
David and I went on a wonderful getaway to see Monticello, Thomas Jefferson’s home in Charlottesville, Va. Many thanks to Emily who made it possible by babysitting for us!

U.S. Botanic Garden
We went on a fun family outing to the United States Botanic Garden on the National Mall. Rachel got her first view of the U.S. Capitol.
