Papa & Nana

Rachel’s Papa and Nana Verhey came out from Nevada to visit this past weekend. What a joy it was to introduce them to little Rachel Anne — their 6th grandchild. Thank you, Jim and Sharon, for a wonderful visit.

Visitors

Rachel has had many visitors over the course of her short life. We’ve enjoyed sharing her with so many special family and friends. Thanks to everyone for rejoicing with us in this precious gift from the Lord!

Bari Nichols and her daughter, Catherine, brought us a meal shortly after we arrived home from the hospital.

My dear friend Savannah brought her son Joshua over to meet Rachel. You can read more about how it all turned out by clicking here to go to Savannah’s blog.

During their visit to DC last month, my friend Julie and her husband Jon brought their darling daughter Hannah over for a visit. It was great to catch up with Julie whom I met almost ten years ago on a study abroad program called Semester at Sea. Julie was the unofficial tour guide on my first-ever visit to Washington, DC, back in 2000. Little did I know that, eight years later, I’d be a full-fledged east-coaster and loving it. God’s providence is amazing. Thanks for your friendship, Julie!

Our friend from church, Claire Selk, was a great blessing during my pregnancy and the first few weeks of Rachel’s life: hanging out to talk, helping me with laundry, cleaning the house, babysitting and feeding Rachel her very first bottle. We’re sad that Claire has moved back to Colorado. We will miss her!

We hope Rachel will grow to love her “Uncle” Eugene” and “Aunt” Claire as much as her parents do. We praise God for these dear friends.

Miss Melody (left) came to hang out with us for a morning, and Rachel is looking forward to having her babysit soon. And my cousin China (right) spent a day with us last week. We’re excited that she’s in town for work and graduate studies. We hope we’ll get to see more of her!

First play-date

A few weeks ago, Rachel’s two pals Alex and Ellie came over to visit. These three don’t look very lively now, but give them a few months…

Alex and Ellie’s moms delivered their babies just a few months/weeks before I did, and it’s been fun to share this new season of life with them. Below are some before and after shots of me with Ellie’s mom, Brooke, and Alex’s mom, Nikki. I’m so thankful for sisters in Christ!

Stoever family visit

We enjoyed a wonderful visit from the Stoever family during their stopover in DC as part of their cross-country summer vacation adventure. They worshipped with us on Sunday at CHBC, and then we all went out for lunch at Union Station. The Stoevers are dear friends from Sacramento, California, where Greg pastors River City Grace Community Church, the church of which I was a member for several years before David and I got married. What a blessing to see them!

Going out

7 weeks old!

What happened to the good old days?

Who is this little pink bundle who gets all the attention…Sniff…?

There’s a smile!
